HARRISON, NEW JERSEY — Toronto FC earned a valuable road victory Saturday, beating the New York Red Bulls 2–0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium to keep their playoff pursuit alive.

An own goal by New York's Justin Che in the third minute gave Toronto an early advantage. Dániel Sallói added the second in the 82nd minute after Jonathan Osorio sent him clear with a first-touch pass.

Gavran protects the lead

Luka Gavran made three saves for Toronto. New York had 67 per cent possession and a 15–6 advantage in shots, but could not turn that pressure into a goal.

The October 17 result left Toronto with eight wins, 10 losses and 12 draws. It did not clinch a playoff berth.

Toronto played without suspended defenders Richie Laryea and Benjamin Kuscevic, while Walker Zimmerman was out with an ankle injury. Assistant Wolde Harris led the team while head coach Robin Fraser served a one-game suspension.
